We must not sit back and try to analyze whether or not people will like the truth that we present. In the church today, we need members who will speak boldly to the lost about God’s word. Other references to disciples’ boldness are found in Acts 4:31 19:8 28:31. A later team, Paul and Barnabas, also had the habit of “ speaking boldly in the Lord” (Acts 14:3). The courage of the first-century followers of the Christ was one of their outstanding characteristics. In the face of opposition and danger, these men proclaimed the way of salvation that comes only through Jesus. This text shows three things that the opposers of Jesus’ Cause saw in two of His most well-known followers.įirst, the Sanhedrin saw the apostles’ BOLDNESS.
And they realized that they had been with Jesus” (4:13). When the members of the Sanhedrin council watched and listened to them, what did they observe? “ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. Peter said, “We cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Say that it is good when we tell others about Jesus.After John and Peter healed a lame man and Peter preached to the Jews who came together after that marvelous miracle, the Jewish leaders took the two apostles into custody and interrogated them (Acts 3:1-4:12). But this made some of the religious leaders angry, so they put Peter and John in prison and ordered them to stop talking about Jesus. Share that after the miracle, Peter preached, and many more people believed in Jesus. Take some time to pray and thank God for all He has done. Think of ways we can thank God for working in our lives. When the man was healed, he leapt, jumped and praised God. It is good to help people practically, but even if we don’t have things, we can always pray for them and tell them the good news about Jesus. Peter didn’t have silver or gold, but he could pray for the man and tell him about Jesus. Such as, “What is better rotten tomatoes or fresh Pizza?” or “What is better to read a good book or read the Bible?” Ask the child to choose between options of good and better. The man asked Peter and John for money, but they gave him something better. We should also look for chances to help others and serve God. When they saw the man, they saw an opportunity to help him and bring glory to God. Say that Peter and John didn’t expect to meet the man at the temple, but God had planned it. When you get home, ask the child if anything they saw was a surprise. You could play eye-spy, look for something in a specific colour or look for letters to spell a word. Ask them to pay attention and look for things along the walk. Say that the people would meet in the temple to pray (A bit like when we go to church). Share after Peter preached, 3000 people were baptised and joined the church. Remind the child of what happened at Pentecost and the start of the church.
The man in the Bible passage couldn’t walk, so he needed people to carry him to the temple gate to beg for money and food. They were dependent on others for everything. Tell the child that in Bible times, people with disabilities didn’t have the opportunities they have today. For example, how would the list change if they were a baby or adult? Repeat this activity allowing the child to imagine they are someone else. You may choose to make cards for the child to sort. Ask them about things they can do by themselves and things they need someone else to do for them. Talk to the child about what it means to be dependent.
